Job Description: Hayat Ali & Co is a well-established construction firm based in Islamabad with over 50 years of experience delivering government and public-sector infrastructure projects across Pakistan. Projects include roads and highways (NHA), solar power installations, water filtration plants, stadiums, and water supply & sewerage systems. We are seeking a detail-oriented Accountant to join our finance team and support project accounting, compliance, and financial reporting for multiple ongoing contracts.
Responsibilities include:
- Maintain accurate general ledger entries and ensure timely month-end close for corporate and project accounts.
- Prepare and analyze monthly financial statements, variance reports, and project cost reports for management review.
- Manage accounts payable and receivable workflows, including invoice verification, payment scheduling, and collection follow-ups.
- Reconcile bank statements, project advances, retention accounts, and intercompany balances.
- Support budgeting and forecasting for ongoing projects and assist project managers with cost tracking and job cost analysis.
- Ensure compliance with tax regulations, prepare VAT/GST and withholding tax filings, and coordinate with external auditors during statutory audits.
- Maintain fixed assets register, calculate depreciation, and assist with capital expenditure tracking and capitalization.
- Implement and improve internal controls, document accounting procedures, and support ERP/accounting system data integrity.
- Coordinate with procurement and contracts teams to verify contract terms, payment milestones, and retention releases.
- Respond to finance-related inquiries from project sites and support occasional site-level reconciliations as needed.
The role reports to the Finance Manager and will be based in our Islamabad office. The successful candidate will be part of a collaborative finance team that supports large-scale infrastructure projects and contributes to accurate financial management and statutory compliance across the business.
Job Specification:
- Professional proficiency in accounting principles (IFRS/local GAAP) and project cost accounting.
- Hands-on experience with accounting software/ERP systems (e.g., QuickBooks, Tally, SAP Business One or similar).
- Strong Excel skills including VLOOKUP, pivot tables, formulas, and data reconciliation techniques.
- Experience preparing VAT/GST, withholding tax computations, and familiarity with Pakistan tax compliance.
- Ability to prepare and interpret financial statements, management reports, and job cost reports.
- Knowledge of fixed assets management, depreciation schedules, and capital expenditure accounting.
- Attention to detail, accuracy in ledger reconciliations, and strong analytical capability for variance analysis.
- Good communication skills for liaising with project teams, procurement, and external auditors.
- Time management and ability to meet month-end and statutory reporting deadlines.
- Prior experience in construction or infrastructure project accounting is highly desirable.
