Junior WordPress / PHP Developer & DevOps Trainee (Internship / Apprenticeship)

Job Description: BUXTON NORTH LTD is a UK-based information services company delivering digital work and information-related solutions. The company is seeking a Junior WordPress / PHP Developer and DevOps Trainee for an internship or apprenticeship. This opportunity is designed for an early-career candidate who wants practical experience building, maintaining, and supporting web applications while developing foundational DevOps capabilities.

The successful candidate will work with experienced team members and gain exposure to WordPress development, PHP programming, website operations, version control, deployment processes, and basic infrastructure practices.

• Develop and maintain WordPress websites, themes, plugins, and integrations using PHP, HTML, CSS, and JavaScript.
• Assist with troubleshooting website issues, performance problems, configuration errors, and routine maintenance.
• Support source-control workflows, code reviews, testing, backups, and release preparation.
• Learn and assist with deployment, hosting, server monitoring, environment configuration, and basic automation.
• Document technical work clearly and collaborate with colleagues to deliver reliable digital solutions.

Job Specification:

• Foundational knowledge of PHP and object-oriented programming concepts.
• Practical familiarity with WordPress administration, themes, plugins, templates, and content workflows.
• Working understanding of HTML, CSS, JavaScript, responsive design, and browser-based debugging.
• Basic knowledge of MySQL or another relational database and common web hosting concepts.
• Familiarity with Git, branching, pull requests, and collaborative development practices.
• Interest in Linux, command-line tools, deployment workflows, backups, monitoring, and automation.
• Strong problem-solving ability, attention to detail, willingness to learn, and clear written communication.
• Ability to follow technical instructions, document changes, and work responsibly in a team environment.
