Chemistry & Biology O-Level Teacher

Job Description:

The City School in Karachi seeks a dedicated Chemistry & Biology O-Level Teacher to deliver high-quality science instruction for secondary students (O-Level). The role focuses on developing strong conceptual understanding, practical laboratory skills, and examination readiness in line with the O-Level curriculum.

• Plan and deliver engaging lessons in Chemistry and Biology aligned to O-Level specifications, learning objectives and assessment requirements.
• Design and supervise practical laboratory sessions, ensuring safety, correct use of equipment, and clear links between experiments and theory.
• Prepare focused assessments, quizzes and past-paper practice; mark work promptly and provide constructive feedback to support student progress.
• Differentiate instruction to meet diverse learner needs, including remedial support and extension activities for high achievers.
• Maintain accurate records of attendance, assessment data and progress; communicate student performance to parents and participate in scheduled parent-teacher meetings.
• Collaborate with department colleagues to develop schemes of work, share resources, and moderate assessments to maintain consistent standards across classes.
• Contribute to extracurricular science activities, clubs or competitions that promote curiosity, scientific thinking and application beyond the classroom.
• Follow school policies on behaviour management, safeguarding and laboratory safety; participate in professional development and whole-school events as required.

The position is based at The City School campus in Karachi and reports to the Head of Science. This role offers the opportunity to work within an established international network with access to shared curriculum resources and professional learning communities.

Job Specification:

• Strong subject knowledge in both Chemistry and Biology at O-Level standard, including ability to teach theory and practicals.
• Experience planning lessons and schemes of work that align with O-Level syllabi and assessment objectives.
• Competence in designing and safely conducting laboratory experiments, with understanding of risk assessments and PPE requirements.
• Assessment literacy: creating formative and summative assessments, exam-style questions, marking schemes and providing actionable feedback.
• Classroom management skills and ability to maintain discipline while fostering a positive learning environment.
• Good communication skills for clear instruction and parent engagement; ability to prepare progress reports and participate in meetings.
• Ability to differentiate instruction and provide targeted interventions for students with varied abilities.
• Familiarity with using educational technology and digital resources to support lesson delivery and student tracking.
• Teamwork and collaboration within a department, and willingness to contribute to extracurricular science activities and school events.
